School Reports from the Future Series:Magic
The Money Wizards gathered around there trading screens over a reflecting fountain stocked with freshest heavy water to say the words that woke up the stock market each weekend day morning at the ring of the bell just as they did on ancient earth times before magic was achieved by the scientist. Those old days they used supercomputers to run trades and make decisions in less than a second. That was before magic was discovered. Well discovered is the wrong word because magic is all around us and just needs to be accessed. That was the discovery made those centuries ago when they were trying to figure out dark matter. It was done by accident as many great discoveries occur. Now information was fed through the magic lines which had almost completely replaced technology but a few kept that research going like someone studying the old ways had always done. A few systems were kept in back up of course but magic had never failed since its development centuries ago. The world was a different place and no one expected the singularity to be a magic one. Lives had been extended and wounds and diseases were tended to by the magic medical core.
The environment got cleaned up under magic and lost animals have returned but too many because who needs that many dodo birds or extra hairy elephants roaming the plan which is handled by the magic bureau of land management.
Now people still kept a few ways from the past like music devices because sound quality was always an issue with magic for some reason. It sounded tinny was always a problem so people walked around with a walkman as everyone calls their personal music device.
The discovery of magic happened when a researcher looking for dark matter found a device to convert it into something they could see. When dark matter was converted it was a rainbow colored substance that interacted with people’s thoughts and could form realites around it. Some believe it always reflected our thoughts but because of lack of direct contact that it only picked up the strongest beliefs which were the basic laws of physics. It took alot of belief which is why we had rules of physics in the universe to begin with. Now there were some issues until it was regulated by the government otherwise delusions of distraught people would rain free around the planet. One time flying monkeys were unleashed like from the “Wizard of Oz” but they were dealt with by mythical animal control.
Now money is pegged to magical stocks that are based on people’s beliefs. The big money wizards firms control most of it but every once in a while magic traders over power them. This always gets the big firms upset because they might lose billions of magic dollars. This report is about the day the Money wizards and the day money wizards went to battle in the great capital market disruption of 2341. The stock market was under control by the money wizards for the big firms who had controlled it since its creation in 2300 when magic was discovered. Magic works on the belief of the caster of the magic. The big firms had always had the most beliefs because they had brokers who went to the fancy Ivy League magics. They could summon the most belief and run the investments with that power and the street wizards as they were called by the elites in magic finance couldn’t summon enough power and had to fall in line with the firms. On a cold winter day in January the day wizards had formed a plan to take control of the market and take out the big firms. They decided to focus all the belief and cast there magic behind a loser of a stock that made their favorite brand of snack crackers for a long time but because of new companies that made cheaper and tasted better but that day power of nostalgic memories won as these day wizards poured out there hearts and ate snack crackers and the memories that had made day wizards feel young and relieve the good times of their youth overwhelmed even the strongest Ivy league wizards and caused there magic shares to skyrocket in price. This day in history forever humbled the elite firms. This changed the magical capital markets that are run on belief forever.
