Love is in the Recycled Air

Stuck on this boat for ten days feeling the ocean churn and wind blow the surface is the only way I can center myself on the journey into uncertainty.  I am heading to an island away from everyone on the tiny hope that stories I have heard are true.  I didn’t have the resources for a faster journey like in a helicopter but when you objected from your ship on to a planet with just a few pieces of standard equipment it made it hard.  I was not prepared for a developed world with the survival kit that was with me.  I did the best I could and I had to save this planet with the resources on hand.  That is a ship captain’s motto to do what you have to with the resources on hand.  I stripped my survival kit of what was precious metal and got enough for supplies and used the planet’s information systems and a public library with a micro phish of old newspapers to find a scientist that would have the skill to build the machine. I would need to save them all from doom.

I had enough time because space travel takes a long time and the inhabitants on earth were not aware that the doom was coming soon.  Earth is my favorite place to get coffee and chocolate. No other place gets it right with their replicators because they are copying a copy of a copy etc.  I had my ship’s replicator scan directly the finest beans and chocolate first hand.  I even grew a little in the green section for an extra special treat.  I was just a coffee junkie who was saving earth for his own purposes lucky for its inhabitants.  This boat ride gave me a long time to think of a plan once this scientist could make a material I needed to defeat the armada of alien ships coming to earth to take its resources and enslave the humans like those bastards like to do every other planet that saw an easy take.  They didn’t even have a name for their species but everyone else called them nightmares because they looked like whatever you fear in your dream because of some chemical they produced.  The thing to remember when facing superior beings without enough of anything is to remember they have weakness and if they think it’s easy that is also their weakness.  I looked at the waves and wondered if I could send an SOS intergalactic with any communication system on the island or maybe i can contact my ship but it had been sabotaged and there was no crew because i was on vacation but what do intergalactic threats care about that.

This quiet time on a ship was not weird but i had a super smart and aware computer to talk to.  I miss her. I hope she is not damaged.  Ship computers are made in one planet and are built around one or two people but I found her in salvage operation and my ship was an older ship without such an advanced system.  I had to put her in our system by hand and fix all the problems myself.  We were both abandoned and got along quite well for a system not built for me personally.  I hope to hear a voice again and sip on my coffee.  I guess that is my happy place, not too unusual for a ship’s captain. Not many captains have non computer wives.  I am going to get her a body so she can come down on a planet too if i survive all these no time like the present in a bad spot to figure out life.  I wonder what color she wants her hair to be or maybe she doesn’t want hair.  I guess it will be a wonderful surprise.  Ten days on the ocean while I fall in love with my ship’s computer.  Now i just need to figure out how to stop this invasion with some survivor gear and Earth’s tech what a mess i get into.

If that scientist can produce the material I need I might be able to turn this situation around.  These aliens use a chemical to make people see their nightmares but what if i make them look like teddy bears and they stay stuck in that form.  I think they will be kicked off this planet quite easily.  I just need a material to enhance my thoughts and broadcast it over the entire planet using all the frequencies.  That is a pretty good plan for a crashed landed captain with a few pieces of equipment.  This scientist had been working alone on a material that can read all the frequencies so I just turned it around and broadcast one thought about teddy bears being a fear.  Stuck as a tiny defense little bear that just threatened a planet is going to be fun to watch.

If you can be anything, be  optimistic so after I defend earth and its coffee and chocolate from invaders I will marry the ship’s computer.  I wonder if she want to exchange brains and chips like they did in the old days who knows most people think that is so old fashioned cutting out part your brain and putting in her neuro bank and replacing it with processing chip so your always connected just like rings and names used to be exchanged in ancient times in most places.  Earth still does that but they are little behind times but think I want to get married here since I am about to save with a transmitter from a survival kit and some exotic material they owe me a honeymoon.

After ten days on this boat I finally arrived at the island in pacific ocean.  I was dropped off on the island by a small raft in the dead of night. At least they gave me a big flashlight.  I hope there are no wild large animals on this island.  I look for buildings and I am given some luck from the universe. I see a large building from the shoreline.  I knock on the front doors. It’s best to be direct most of the time on earth.  A surprised man in a bathrobe answers the door and I say I need your help Dr Smith.  My name isn’t really important but you are working on a material that receives all frequencies.  Dr smith how did you get here this is a private island?  Very slowly but I need that material to save Earth.  Earth is in danger and I need it to save it from alien invaders.  Dr Smith let me in and said I need a better explanation of all this and how he could stop that because of my exotic material work.  I explained I am a Captain of a spaceship from another planet but I need your material you have been working on to save the planet.  Dr Smith looks like I could see through his brain case.  I said it was simple research that you are working on an exoctic material and I need some of it and maybe some tools.  We don’t have time for you to ask questions. I have been on a damn boat for ten days to get her to your lab.  Show me to the lab this a time sensitive matter since scary aliens are coming to invade.  Dr Smith took me right away to his lab and I saw the work he had done.   I said you almost have it just change the formula like this and I scribbled some mathematical symbols on his old school chalkboard.  Dr Smith said that was why it didn’t work and i said you would have gotten it but time is a factor.  I said I need you to make some so I can create a broadcast system.

Dr Smith looked shocked but understood the process he needed to make some material good. I am not one of those captains that worries about interfering with a developing planet.  I made a cup of coffee in his kitchen and enjoyed not having waves tossing my insides around all night.  I had weird dreams the whole boat ride here.  I wonder if i can transmit from here or if i have to go to the mainland.  I wish I had my ship’s computer to talk to and do the hard math.  It wouldn’t take her but seconds to calculate it out.    I have to clear my mind so i can record a mental image of a teddy bear causing terror which is harder to do than you think but i want to save this planet with the best coffee and chocolate.  I put myself in a trance and hit the record button on my complex communication device.  It has limited telepathy capability for those times you can not talk and need to send complicated directions or locations or local warnings.  I did that part now. I have to find a satellite dish and see if I can broadcast to the mothership planning on invading earth because that should get the results I want of teddy bear size aliens trying to invade.  I can take one of their ships and get my ship in working order.  I could not wait to marry my ship’s computer.  She was the only one for me.  Dr Smith says the material is ready.  I attach the material to my communication device and connect it to the satellite and it should be ready as soon as I figure out the right angle.  I hand crank the satellite until I hear an alien language and set it to broadcast a strong pulse in an hour.  I tune Dr Smith’s other satellites to monitor news stations.  This should be fun to watch as tiny teddy bears try to strike fear in the hearts in humans.  I make some popcorn and help myself to the Doctor Smith whisky.  I am a terrible house guest but what the hell I am saving the planet.
